Hi everyone Debbi Carberry here and today I want to talk to you about gratitude.

It is a really interesting concept, gratitude, and lots of people think gratitude is really about the big stuff – you know, a big house a big car, but what we know is that research shows that if you have an attitude of gratitude, if you appreciate the small things you have in life you are a much happier person.

Every day I have a gratitude routine and I love a routine because it helps me to remember to do things on a regular basis.

There are couple of ways of doing gratitude – one of the things you could do is write a gratitude journal where at the end of each day you could write something in the journal about what you are grateful for in a given day.

Alternatively you could try doing what I do – each day I exercise and while I’m exercising I think about the things that I am grateful for and spend maybe 3 or 4 minutes listing them to myself.

Another thing could be when you start your day – stopping before you get out of bed and thinking about what am I grateful for this morning – this could be as simple as being alive, being warm, knowing that there is food on your table or you are able to spend time with the people that you love.  Having a hot shower or being able to reach out to our friend.

These things don’t have to be huge, small things really are important too.

Another suggestion is have a family gratitude jar.  Ask everyone to pop things they are grateful for over the week – and maybe later in the week over a family meal asking each person to pick something from the jar and share it – these everyday activities help to bring us closer as a family or couple  and science shows that people who practice gratitude daily are healthier and happier.

Okay guys until next time.
