Hi it’s Debbi Carberry here from debbicarberry.com.au and today I have a tip for you.  My tip for you is an acronym that I have heard many times during my working life and something I use with my clients all of the time.  And the tip is an acronym called H.A.L.T

And halt stands for – don’t get too

  • Hungry
  • Angry
  • Lonely
  • Tired

And what I say to my clients is sometimes when things are not going so great and we are not feeling so well take a minute to pause and take a couple of deep breathes and ask yourself:

Am I, hungry, angry, lonely or tired?

And if you answer yes to any of those – stop for a short time and actually get your needs met.

If you are angry you need to deal with that, you need to work through it.

If you’re lonely is there something you can do to connect with other people?

If you’re tired get some rest, disconnect, take some time out, do some mindfulness, do some relaxation, do some deep breathing, go for a walk.

And if you are hungry eat some food that nourishes you, do not eat a chocolate bar and a can of soft drink that’s full of sugar – if you are hungry find some food that really is going to nourish you.

So here is my tip – don’t get too Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired and if you look at that acronym and follow it you will have a much better day.
